Katie Geyer: Managing Director
WriteGirl Managing Director Katie Geyer manages day-to-day operations, internal and external communications, fundraising campaigns, membership services and all aspects of mentoring programs, and assists in strategic planning, staff development and overall program planning. Katie joined WriteGirl in 2012 as a volunteer and brings her insights and experience as a volunteer to her leadership role on staff.
Katie has helped expand the WriteGirl mentoring program to double the number of mentor/mentee pairs and has expanded the program to be available to teens all over the world.
Katie has served as associate editor on several WriteGirl anthologies, the WriteGirl online literary journal Lines & Breaks, and the WriteGirl creative writing journal What’s Behind the Blue Door?
Katie has a Master’s in Journalism from Boston University and a BA in Communication Studies from UCLA. She worked for several years as a political reporter and assistant editor for a daily newspaper and has been published in several magazines.
Katie has helped secure and coordinate significant media coverage of WriteGirl including CNN, The Kelly Clarkson Show, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times and more.
In 2013, Katie’s mentee was selected to accompany WriteGirl Executive Director Keren Taylor onstage at the White House to accept an award from First Lady Michelle Obama. Katie, an avid photographer, was granted access to the White House with the help of her press pass and photographed this historic moment for her mentee and for WriteGirl.
Katie stays in touch with her WriteGirl mentee, who attended the University of Pennsylvania and is now working as a researcher in Washington, D.C.
