WRITEGIRL AWARDS:

WriteGirl has won more than 100 awards for its two decades of empowering teens. In 2013, WriteGirl was honored by First Lady Michelle Obama with the 2013 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, the highest national honor awarded to such programs. Executive Director Keren Taylor and mentee Jacqueline Uy, age 16, personally accepted the award from First Lady Michelle Obama.

In 2022, WriteGirl Executive Director Keren Taylor won the Dorothy M. McKenzie Award for Distinguished Service to the Field of Children’s Literature, awarded by the Children’s Literature Council of Southern California, and in 2020, Keren received the Los Angeles Times Innovator’s Award, “spotlighting efforts to bring books, publishing and storytelling into the future.” 

WriteGirl has received 100 national and international book awards for its anthologies and online literary journal Lines & Breaks.
