Amanda Gorman Talks Poetry and Imposter Syndrome with WriteGirl Teens at In-Person Event in Los Angeles

On February 23, 2023, WriteGirl partnered with the Estèe Lauder Companies to host a special creative writing workshop for WriteGirl members: “My Imposter Self Speaks: Battling Imposter Syndrome and Speaking from the Heart,” featuring Special Guest, WriteGirl Alum and Estée Lauder Global Changemaker Amanda Gorman.

Dozens of WriteGirl teens and alums got the rare opportunity to gather together for WriteGirl’s first in-person event since 2020. The event included writing activities, a discussion with Amanda Gorman and sharing of writing from participants. The goal of this event was to give the teens the confidence and insights they need to overcome challenges and obstacles they face at school, at home and in their communities. WriteGirl members were moved by the opportunity to be in conversation with WriteGirl alum and Inaugural Poet Amanda Gorman, who shared her struggles with imposter syndrome and inspired participants to trust their unique power. Here are some comments from WriteGirl members:

I loved the intimacy of the event. It creates a safe space for everyone to share without judgment and with full support.

A room of women talking about their feelings and validating themselves sets the world for success. Cheers to more rooms!

I loved that the stories everyone shared came deep from the heart and everyone had a chance to explore their vulnerability.

WriteGirl is proud to be a partner in “WRITING CHANGE,” a three-year initiative of The Estée Lauder Companies and Amanda Gorman to advance literacy.
