One-on-One Mentoring

Workshop Mentoring:

Regardless of whether you are matched with your own weekly mentor, all WriteGirl teens have opportunities to work with a mentor for the day at any WriteGirl workshops that include Mentoring Breakouts.

Weekly Mentoring:

WriteGirl matches a limited number of mentor/mentee pairs each season. Since we have a limited number of mentors who are available to mentor on a weekly basis, we have a waiting list to be matched with a weekly mentor. We will send you a sign-up form to be matched when we have weekly mentors available. We make mentor/mentee matches based on a wide variety of criteria including geographic location and sometimes other factors like writing genre.

Being matched with an online weekly mentor means that you will need to be available to meet online for about an hour each week through June. At the end of June, you and your mentor can decide if you'd like to continue working together (and we hope you do!). All WriteGirl mentoring is offered online, and teens who live in the Los Angeles area may have the option to meet with their mentor in-person if the mentor is available to.

Please note that we have a waiting list to be matched with an online weekly mentor. Because we have a limited number of mentors who are available for weekly mentoring, it's not uncommon for new members to wait six months to a year, or sometimes longer, to be matched. If we are not able to match you this season, we will keep you on the list and match you as soon as we have a mentor available. When it comes time to match you, we will match you with a mentor based on a variety of factors.

Short-Term Project Mentoring:

We may be able to match you with a one-on-one mentor for short-term mentoring if you need help with a specific project, such as a poetry portfolio, or the completion of a creative writing project. Project mentoring might consist of one or two mentoring sessions or the project may last for several weeks. To request a project mentor, fill out this request for a Short-Term mentor
