WriteGirl had the honor of being invited to the Getty House, the historical residence of Mayor Karen Bass, to perform poetry at the Women’s History Month Panel on March 17, 2024. The event, titled Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges: A Journey to Shatter the Glass Ceiling, was a celebration of women who have defied expectations in their fields. WriteGirl mentee Milissa Sutton and WriteGirl alum Sofía Aguilar, kicked off the event with women empowerment-centered poems that helped set the tone for an inspiring, educational and fulfilling afternoon.

The event transitioned into a panel featuring trailblazing women across a variety of fields. The panel included Nanxy Liu, CEO of Blaze Technology, Denise Booth, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer at The Los Angeles Clippers and Marta Kauffman, showrunner and creator of the television shows Friends and Grace and Frankie. In a talkback moderated by Spectrum News 1 Anchor Giselle Fernandez, each woman shared their insights into overcoming obstacles they faced along the way of growing their careers.

Special thanks to The Getty House Foundation for their gracious invitation!
